Quality:
 Mesquite Powder is a wild-crafted organic superfood powder.  Our Mesquite comes from a beautiful, untouched forest region in central Peru. To produce this healthy, whole-food meal, ripe Mesquite pods are hand-picked from the tree by members of the local indigenous communities. They are then rinsed thoroughly and naturally shade dried. A special grinder is used to crush and pulverize both the pod and the seeds of the mesquite into an ultra-fine flour.

Benefits:
Mesquite Powder was used as a power food for centuries by the desert-dwellers of South America. Mesquite contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, and is also rich in the amino acid lysine. Mesquite powder meal is an easy-to-digest source of carbohydrates—with a sweet, starchy flavor. Because the carbohydrates are complex, they have a lower glycemic index than most fruit sugars.  Some Native American groups, such as the Tohono O'odham peoples in Arizona, use Mesquite powder as an alternative sweetener and flavoring agent for those with blood sugar challenges. Ultimately, Mesquite powder is a better source of protein than most vegan foods, with the protein weighing in at around 17% of the powder's total weight. That's higher than nearly every known grain, and many common nuts and seeds!

Taste:
 Mild, sweet, nutty, molasses-like flavor with a hint of caramel and chocolate.  If you love carob you have to try its close cousin, Mesquite.  This Peruvian Mesquite has an excellent deep roasted, rich taste.

Uses:
Add Organic Mesquite Powder to smoothies, cacao drinks, desserts, and other recipes. It adds thickness along with a sweet flavor and smooth texture to your favorite creations.  Mesquite gives more body and flavor to any recipe.  It can be added to homemade nutrition smoothies and shakes, as well as desserts and chocolate bars. This Peruvian Mesquite is perfect for adding to coffee or chai-like beverages or exotic flavors like malty sauces and desserts.

Best Mesquite I've Found February 21, 2010

I just got 5 lbs of this mesquite and it is wonderful!  I use it, along with the cacao nibs and cacao powder (also from Love Street), to make my organic raw (cacao) chocolate treats.  These products are the best I've found in over 2 years.  They make a really smooth chocolate treat.
