Living in today’s caustic environment can be a burden to
our already active immune system. In response to this
dilemma, Gaia Herbs, Inc. has singled out the most highly
selected herbs from across the globe that enhance the
body’s long-term immune system response to
environmental stressors. As a result, the unique formula
created in Whole Body Defense enhances the vital force of
our immune system while simultaneously supplying the
body with free-radical quenching antioxidants.
Echinacea root has a long and honored history by Native
American groups and was once considered by many tribes as
“a remedy for more ailments than any other plant”. Even at the
turn of the century, Eclectic Physicians used it widely for skin
disruptions, respiratory complaints, and as a general antiseptic.
However, until recently, the exact function of this plant had not
yet been clearly understood. Thanks to the NIH-NCCAM
research grant bestowed to the Gaia Herbs Research Lab, a
select group of compounds have now been elucidated that are
responsible for understanding how Echinacea works. Utilizing a
patent-pending extraction method, a new set of compounds
have now been whole-plant standardized and are known as “Px-
P Factors” which collectively represent the polysaccharides and
glycoprotein fractions. The “Px-P Factors” in Whole Body
Defense support the phagocytic activity of macrophage cells
while also promoting healthy levels of interferon. In doing so,
these compounds deliver a powerful preventative action and
supply a naturally healthy immune response.*
Astragalus membranaceus has been used for centuries in
Traditional Chinese Medicine to tonify “chi” which translates into
English as ‘life force’ or ‘life energy’. Astragalus was popularly
used historically as an immune enhancing tonic to prevent
susceptibility to the “cold”. Several studies have confirmed its
ability to bolster the activity of our immune system by
encouraging normal levels of natural killer cells and interferon
production. By fortifying the immune system our body is better
suited to tolerate the harsh environment of the winter season.*
Arabinogalactans are an important water-soluble
polysaccharide found in plants such as carrots, radishes,
tomatoes, pears, and Echinacea to name a few. Whole Body
Defense includes a specific group of arabinogalactans found
exclusively in the coniferous tree the western larch (Larix
occidentalis).
Larch arabinogalactans are actually a mixture of
several different arabinogalactans which research has
suggested may have immune-enhancing activity. In fact, some
studies have shown that it has a positive effect on the levels of
interferon, interleukin-1 and interleukin-6 as well as stimulating
phagocytosis and natural killer cell activity.*
Indigenous to northeastern Japan, Maitake mushrooms
typically grow at the foot of Oak trees in clusters that resemble
fluttering butterflies. This resemblance led the Japanese to refer
to this type of mushroom as Maitake, which means “dancing
mushroom.” Maitake’s primary use within traditional Chinese
and Japanese medicine centers around its ability to enhance
the immune system. In particular, this mushroom includes a
beta-glucan polysaccharide known as grifolan. Grifolan is
credited for rousing macrophages, natural killer cells,
interleukin-1 and -2, and T-cells within the immune system.*
With today’s toxic environment our immune system is in need
for a vital, direct, and efficacious botanical support. In order to
strengthen our long-term health and biochemical responses to
environmental stressors it has become wise to supplement our
diet with herbal tonics. Whole Body Defense is formulated to
enhance the vital force of our immune system utilizing age-old
wisdom and modern-day scientific extraction techniques to
deliver a potent herbal immune-supporting formula.*
